History

Rising demand for statistical data on the cross-border Lake Constance region first led steps towards a co-operation between German, Austrian, Swiss and Liechtenstein statistics offices as early as the 1990s.

Initiated by Johannes Rutz, St. Gallen Amt für Arbeit and president of EURES Bodensee, the “Statistical Labour Market Monitoring” project was launched in autumn 2003. Its focus is analyzing and documenting trends in the cross-border labour market in the Lake Constance region.

In 2005, a co-operation between “Internationale Bodensee Konferenz” (IBK) and other partners resulted in a second statistics project: “Statistic Platform Lake Constance”. Instrumental in this project was Edgar Sidamgrotzki, head of the canton Thurgau Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit and chairman of the IBK economy committee. It is the central goal of this project to describe and illustrate the region's structural characteristics covering various topics and using a variety of different indicators.
